Welcome to YBBC DAY 4!
Today’s yoga class can be summed up in four words: soften into your strength.
And now you’re wondering….. what the hell does she mean by that?
I’ll explain.
For many years, I resisted the word soft, in all it’s forms. I viewed it as being as weak. I wouldn’t dare soften to my family, partner, or friends. I wouldn’t allow myself to surrender for the sake of relaxation and rest. I couldn’t soften towards my body and appreciate it’s abilities and beauty.
Instead, I worked really hard to stay hard.
I prided myself in being a perfectionist, always having control over my life, not being too sensitive, and generally being quite the porcupine (don’t you dare come too close or I’ll poke you).

Well lucky for me, the yoga practice and the yoga community softened me.
It didn’t happen quickly and it’s been quite the painful journey – learning how to love myself, take care of myself, and open myself – but it’s a journey I can now appreciate and invite others to experience too.
And one of the simplest ways to do this is through our heart and hip centers.
These areas of the body are energetically synced to our emotions, thoughts, and feelings surrounding pleasure, fluidity, creation, intimacy, compassion, connection, love, and expansion.
You can think of them as storage containers, really big storage containers that house all of your past experiences. These experiences then leave impressions on your soul and over time, can become quite dangerous to your wellbeing.

And for me the danger lied in my inability to just soften, without forgetting my strengths.
So you see, this is the goal of today’s practice, to begin the uncomfortable journey inward and to relinquish your body from storing past moments that no longer serve you.
And one more thing.
When working in these energetic centers it can be all too easy to forget your strengths, please don’t make this mistake. As you invite your body to stretch and surrender, continue to invite your strength in too. The goal here is mobility, a healthy range of motion in the body, not deep flexibility that’s lacking stability.
Okay, now we are ready to begin.
I’ll meet you on the mat!
Allie, xoxo
