108 Sun Salutations for Winter Solstice: Surrender to the Darkness & Embody Your Inner Light

Ready to get real with me? Let’s do it.

Today’s video is a 108 sun salutations to celebrate the winter solstice. Together, we will surrender to the darkness, release what we no longer need, and plant seeds of intention for the light that is coming to be.

The goal of today’s practice is to link our breath with movement, creating a moving meditation, inhaling to welcome renewal, and exhaling to let go of what no longer serves us. It’s a beautiful and transformative experience and one that I love to lead.

…. and it’s also an experience that will leave your hammies sore AF, so be prepared.

If you practiced 108 sun salutations with me for the Spring Equinox, you’re in luck, because I switched things up.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • 20 arm sun salutations
  • 15 half sun salutations
  • 15 plank to downward dog sun salutations
  • 15 low lunge sun salutations
  • 15 belly backbend sun salutations
  • 15 surya namaskar A
  • 13 YOU DO YOU sun salutations

A few important things to note, listen up yogis.

This is your personal practice and experience, SO YOU DO YOU, meaning take modifications whenever necessary, ramp it up to create more heat, take rest in child’s pose, or hit pause and do the 108 sun salutations in increments.

There’s no right or wrong way to experience this ritual, please remember that.

Now let’s talk about how to take it two steps further.

Once you’re done bending and breathing, take a moment to get quiet with me. Remove the distractions. Set aside twenty minutes of your time. And settle into stillness with this guided meditation for the winter solstice.

Welcome the Winter Solstice Guided Meditation

And lastly, if you’re really with me here, I have an idea. The winter solstice is about surrendering to the darkness (aka the shit that holds us back in life) and welcoming the light (our goals, dreams, and desires). And in my experience, writing down my innermost thoughts and feelings is what seals the deal.

So grab a journal and writing utensil, and let’s begin.

  • Write down 64 “things” that are no longer serving you, things that you don’t want to carry into the new year.
  • Write down 64 seeds of intention, what you want to plant for the coming year.

Once you’re done, you can symbolically burn the 64 things that are no longer serving you and save the 64 seeds of intention. I recommend keeping your seeds nearby, serving as a reminder of what you planted and now need to bloom.

….. and hey, don’t think its coincidence that 64 x 2 equals 108!
