Welcome to day one of the Chakra Yoga Challenge.
The day where we root down into our most basic needs, connect with the ground beneath, and tap into the foundation of our entire chakra system – the muladhara chakra.
Let me forewarn you, this chakra can be tough as it’s the most dense of them all, with deep roots taking us back to our childhood years and beyond. It can be emotional in many ways, so let’s prepare for that.
Take a moment to get grateful.
List out the many needs of yours that are already met. The people who bring you joy. The ability to be here, stepping on your yoga mat, in the comfort of your home, and tending to your roots.
…. that’s a big deal, own it, and be grateful for it.
And with this gratitude guiding us, let’s venture into the root chakra.
Muladhara Must-Knows:
- It is located at the base of your spine
- The element is Earth, hence why it’s referred to as dense and tasked with being the pillar upon which all other chakras rest
- It centers around basic survival needs – like food, shelter, safety, and deals with emotions like belonging, feeling grounded, safe, and accepted
- The related color is red, picture a glowing red ball at the base of your spine
- The bija mantra is LAM
Today’s yoga practice will bring your awareness to all the above, while encouraging you to stay close to the Earth, and move through postures that keep your energy planted. Throughout the class, I’ll continue drawing your energy back to the muladhara chakra, providing opportunities for reflection, and ending the practice with a seated meditation/
