First Trimester Yoga | Yin Yang Prenatal Flow to Feel Strong + Supported

Hey mommas-to-be.

I’m back with a new prenatal yoga class that’s geared towards the first trimester, but admittedly filmed during my second.

Translation: you choose if this class is for you.

On the mat, we’ll move through a yin yang yoga sequence that offers both strength & stability and relaxation & support.

These two opposing elements are important, so let’s talk about them.

Throughout pregnancy, the relaxin hormone is being produced and dispersed throughout the body. This hormone loosens connective tissues so we can make room for baby (aka grow), and it prepares our bodies for delivery.

But there’s one caveat, it can also cause joint instability.

For this reason, we want to trade long, passive stretching or going to our edge for simple stabilizing and strengthening postures. Getting your heels or hands to the floor just isn’t necessary anymore.

And then there’s the reality that our bodies are changing and more easily fatigued.

This is especially true during the first trimester when the baby’s critical structures are being formed, like the central nervous system, brain, heart and placenta.

Until the placenta is fully formed at around 12-13 weeks, our bodies are working on overdrive to sustain this new being… it’s no wonder that the fatigue feels overwhelming.

For this reason, today’s class asks you to honor the fatigue, realize that rest is key, and to listen inwardly and not overdo it.

As we progress through pregnancy and eventually into motherhood, being able to listen inwardly and access our intuition will be essential on this journey.

As I’m sure you’ve realized, there’s TONS of suggestions and advice out there, both from trusted and random sources, but our innate mother instinct is equally if not more important.

Invitation to tap into your intuition on the mat with me today, and to take it off the mat and into your personal pregnancy journey.
