Hello Boss Babe Community.
This post is all about inspiration – how to create, cultivate, grow and sustain it. Part of being a boss babe is devoting the time to learn more, trying more and eventually embodying that more.
Personally, I LOVE to digest inspiration through books, specifically set your soul on fire, break down barriers, help instill vision and clarity type books. I’m a sucker for all things motivational and all things that grow my journey.
If you’re a book type babe too, I invite you to learn more about the nine below.
While I haven’t read all of them yet, I personally own all of them, and am steadily making my way through the stack. Interestingly enough, each book has led me to purchase the next – whether it was through a podcast, a blog post or a friend’s recommendation – I’m finding that the unifying message between them all is to live your journey.
Just like we talk about here, day in and day out, these authors are helping readers learn to live it through vulnerability, creativity, accountability and community.
So without further ado, below are 9 Inspirational, Boss Babe, Fuel Your Soul, Must-Read Books.
Take a moment to research which one suits your soul or do like me – and buy them all!
1. Big Magic
Ummm….If i could pick a novel to accompany me on a deserted island, this would be the one. The books formal title is – Big Magic, Creative Living Beyond Fear.
The second part of the title is where the magic happens, because as we talk about here, fear is a major challenge when it comes to living the journey. And Liz, the author, has a nonchalant, totally doable way of living with our fears, but not letting them own our journey.
And don’t be turned off by the words “creative living”, this is for anyone and everyone, because at our core – we’re all creatives.
p.s. – If you’re not familiar with Liz, she’s the badass babe who wrote Eat, Pray, Love, the host of The Magic Lessons podcast, and an all around inspiring woman who I’d loveeeee to meet. Liz – can we do lunch please?
2. The Fire Starter Sessions
Oh man, this book, it’s speaking to me right now.
I’m currently diving deep into this incredibly written, ridiculously inspiring book & it’s rocking my world. Danielle Laporte is an absolute genius when it comes to recognizing our self worth, helping to create a vision, and then inspiring us to do the damn vision.
Her words flow effortlessly, make you laugh frequently, and will guarantee a total overhaul of your current and future journey.
Aside from the content being life changing, Danielle also offers worksheets at the end of each chapter for readers to dive even deeper. It’s tempting to skip over the worksheets, but please don’t journey babes, this is where the true magic begins.
3. The Desire Map
The Desire Map is a guide to creating goals with soul.
I’ve yet to crack this baby open, but it’s on my list of must-reads, don’t you worry. This book is also written by Danielle Laporte and originated from The Fire Starter Sessions, it’s a chapter from the above book.
The Desire Map has become an actual movement with a mega community supporting the structure – life coaches, health coaches, yoga teachers and many more. Aside from the actual content, Danielle has created a licensing program for health/wellness professionals to learn the Desire Map system and then share it with others.
How epic is that? This woman wrote a book, created a movement, and is now teaching others to share the movement.
Hello mega boss babe!
4 & 5. Rising Strong & Daring Greatly
Both of these books are yet to be devoured, but oh man, I’m so incredibly excited to dive into them.
Brené Brown, both a researcher and storyteller, is a major influence in the live your journey community. I found her through Liz Gilbert’s podcast + the Being Boss Podcast and am now a total believer of hers.
Brené’s work focuses on the relationship we have with vulnerability, courage, worthiness and shame. She holds a Doctorate degree in these studies, and combines her formal education with her personal experiences, to create a full-circle experience for her readers.
In addition to her novels, Brené is the founder of COURAGEworks – an online learning community that offers eCourses, workshops, and interviews for individuals and organizations ready for braver living, loving, and leading.
If you’re into all of that, which I imagine you are, find her down below.
6. Playing Big
Playing Big, by Tara Mohr, is a novel that’s focused on practical wisdom for women who want to speak up, create, and lead.
I discovered this awesome, boss babe leader through the Being Boss podcast (anyone noticing a trend here). Tara’s episode was so moving, inspiring and earth shaking, I immediately grabbed her book + flirted with the idea of enrolling in her epic course.
I started this book and am a 1/3 of the way through it….it is heavy shit, meaning her words and writing prompts require your full presence + vulnerability. Just like the others above, I can’t recommend Tara and this book enough.
7. Love Warrior
Love Warrior, by Glennon Doyle Melton, has not been devoured by me (yet), but it is patiently waiting to be opened and do just do that!
I heard of this woman – super well-known blogger, nonprofit creator, relatable woman & mother, and seriously brave soul – through Liz Gilbert’s podcast (The Magic Lessons).
And at first, I thought to myself, “Allie – you are not buying another book, you have stacks on stacks of novels not read yet, you cannot and will not.”
But then, I listened to the final episode of Magic Lessons Season 2, between Liz & Glennon, and that was that. I was blown away by Glennon’s story, her authenticity, her vulnerable style of living, and her unbelievable amount of courage & bravery.
I bought the book (shocker).
And here’s where you can find it + her:
8. The Gratitude Diaries
Mmmmm…… this book is such a good read + life changer!
I started my personal gratitude practice after reading this book and also learned so many beautiful nuggets of wisdom. Nuggets about life, relationships, careers, eating habits, personal self-love, loss, grief and love.
Janice Kaplan is the brilliant woman who wrote and actually did the gratitude thing – not just for a day, but for an entire year – Janice focused on living a life of gratitude.
She tells her personal story + many others in the novel and also pairs the information with scientific, research backed studies proving that gratitude is a thing. Like it can heal you, move you and help create “the you” to live your journey.
If you dig this idea, check it out here:
9. You are a Badass
And lastly, but of course not least – a book by Jen Sincero: You are a Badass, How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life.
I mean….the title pretty much says it all, right? Use the word badass and you’ve got my attention, LOL.
I have yet to crack open this baby, but based on reviews and personal friends recommendations, I already know it’s a game changer.
Alright boss babes, are you feeling inspired?
You must be, because just writing this makes me want to read incessantly and become the person I know I can be. I hope you garnered some great info here, possibly picked up a book or two, and are now starting on the incredible path of living your journey.
And if you’re hesitant to order a book, click the damn button, you deserve it friend!
Let’s Talk – Have you read any of these books? Are you familiar with these authors? Does this type of reading/conversation interest you? What inspiring + motivational books are you reading?
As always – hollaaaa at me with questions, comments, suggestions and general inspirational love.
Until next time, xoxo.
